The serial number has a number and a letter which indicates the series.

Each PettyNugget note holds a 1/10 gram 24 karat gold bar.

The picture remind us a memorable period in the nation's history from 1848–1855: The California Gold Rush, the discovery of gold nuggets in the Sacramento Valley. Miners extracted more than 750,000 pounds of gold during the California Gold Rush.
